Amsterdam Wrap-up
Listening: Love's a brand new situation. Never have I felt so free. 'Cause I can see it comin'! Yeah, and I can feel it callin' louder now.
Just a little wrap up of the Amsterdam leg of my trip. I have to say that I'm pretty relaxed. I'm a bit jet lagged, which is a new experience for me, but all in all I'm pretty chill. My legs hurt from all of the walking that I have been doing and I think that I'm really going to have to rest a little bit more in Prague.
Even though I didn't go out and do touristy stuff here in Amsterdam, I feel like I have learned a great deal about what I like and what I don't like. I also learned that if you're not into smoking weed, whoring or drinking on a Sunday night, there isn't much to do past eleven o'clock.
I have been in bed relatively early for me these last two nights. I have crawled into bed at one in the morning and at midnight respectively. The first night, I slept all of the way through. Last night, I woke up at half past three and couldn't go back to sleep until five. I turned on the TV and it was either watch BBC News, 24, or advertisements for webchats, SMS chats and dating all in Dutch. I assume it had to do with prostitution, but I don't know for sure. In the end, I ended up watching BBC News. They had the results of cricket matches and soccer games, but no news of the Sox. What a travesty.
This morning, I went and saught out the farmer's markets that the lady at the tourist information station pointed out to me. It turns out that one of them was just a fleamarket, and the other was part fleamarket, part farmer's market. I have to say that the fleamarkets were quite interesting. I think that if I were to live in Amsterdam, I would be constantly updating my wardrobe with some of the vintage pieces that I saw there. There was so much that I wanted, but opted out of. From leather jackets to raver pants, they had it all.
The farmer's market part was rather small. I was a bit disappointed. They definitely had some different stuff from what I was used to including red currants, gigantic green grapes, different coloured plums, more fresh cut herbs that I ever see at my farmer's market, a variety of fish and a lot of wild game. I think that it would have been cool to cook some of that up.
Finally, in retrospect, I think that it might have been a mistake to have gotten the single. I didn't do a lot of talking with new people, as I had hoped to. Maybe it's because I didn't really feel like going to a coffee house to smoke and not get high. Maybe it's because I was just so exhausted. I don't know, but whatever the case I'll be rectifying it when I stay at Miss Sophie's in Prague. I will have drinking buddies. I will have people to roam around the city with. I will be more social.
So, with the three hours that I have left in this town, I need to go buy some bread for my picnic dinner on the train, buy a bottle of Genever somewhere, and have one last cone of frites with Vlaamse Mayonnaise. I had another pancake this morning so it was all good on that front.
It's half past three and I'm soooooo tired. Time to get my ass in gear. Vlaamse Mayonnaise, here I come.
